What I liked

My co-workers were very knowledgeable and always willing to teach me new things. I was able to help them design power systems for different types of buildings. They even took me on a couple of site visits where I saw our design being installed before my eyes.

What I wish was different

It would have been nice to attend a couple more meetings with clients.

Advice

Have a basic understanding of 3 phase systems, transformers, power factor, and motors. It does not have to be super in depth, but just know what they are. After being taught something on a certain software, write instructions for yourself on a notepad so that you do not forget it. Make this a different color than anything else on your notepad so you can reference it easily. Bring headphones to work, but mute your music when anybody is talking on the phone. They are most likely speaking with clients and you can gain valuable knowledge from hearing them interact. Try to wrestle and struggle with a problem for about 10 minutes before asking for help. Also, do not be afraid to ask for help.

What I liked

The people and the company were the best part. There was always something going on after work (at least once a week), we had lunch and learns where lunch was provided frequently, and the company as a whole seemed to care about me.

What I wish was different

The work sometimes got a little dry. Often, the projects were interesting and I got to work on some high profile buildings,, and there were fun and challenging issues we had to overcome. But like I said, it did get a little dry sometimes.
