Founded in 1931 by Maurice Labovitz as a single shop in Duluth, Minnesota, the company is owned by apparel retailer Ascena Retail (formerly Dress Barn). Duluth, Minnesota-based Maurices has stores in 46 states. Most of the company's stores are located in the US. However, the women's apparel chain is growing in Canada.
