Collaboration with other interns. Everything was more or less individual and it was hard to find help from someone who wasn't directly connected to your project.
Advice
Talk to coworkers and operators. You'll learn so much and built great relationships.

What I liked
I really liked learning what working in a manufacturing plant was like, and I really loved the people that work there.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had lived a bit closer, and didn't have such a long commute. I also wish that I had a bit more challenging projects, and done a bit more related to my degree.
Advice
Live in Lowville, and really get the know the awesome people who work there.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

What I liked
I enjoyed being able to get a better understanding of how to balance working on multiple projects at once under a supervisor. It was also nice to have been working in a professional environment and becoming more familiar with said professional environment. I also enjoyed getting acquainted with all of the people that I had the pleasure of working with.
What I wish was different
I wish that more of the projects I had been assigned focused more on my area of study. A fair amount of the work I had done involved documenting and mapping various piping systems throughout the facility, and I felt as though I wasn't able to apply many of the skills that I have gained through my education.
Advice
Try to keep an open mind with all tasks you are given on your internship, however also do try to get a greater understanding of the types of projects you will be assigned when initially searching for an internship. Ask questions during your interview and try to see what kind of tasks you will be completing at your new position.

What I liked
Everyone in the mill was very helpful, supportive and made the days enjoyable. They gave me a lot of good projects that gave me good experience. All the employees including hourly employees were helpful and friendly to the interns.
What I wish was different
More big projects for me and the other interns to work on together would have been a good experience.
Advice
Go into it with an open mind because the employees at Neenah are great and paper is much more interesting than most people think.

What I liked
In the mill environment I was able to engage with team members and assets that were affected by my data analysis and process Improvement initiatives.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been able to spend more time working on equipment and machines. Although, this is difficult to achieve at a union mill.
Advice
Internships are the key to realizing if you are in the right career pathway. At Neenah, I was able to gain valuable insight about the role a process engineer plays working for a niche market company in the Forest Products Industry.
