Matchstick Film Company

Video Production Assistant Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Very hands on and learned a lot about how to communicate with clients on location, use high end cinema gear, setup sets for interviews, organize and sort clips, and how to capture genuine emotion in video. This internship grew my skills all around and has most definitely improved my filmmaking capabilities. I was able to travel to some very interesting and fun places that I probably would have never visited otherwise.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to spend more time in New York to edit the footage we captured all summer long and be more involved in the post production aspect.

Advice

Be open to change in the form of constructive criticism when it comes to using a different lens, getting a different angle, or communicating with the talent to get a more captivating shot. Etan has a lot of experience doing what he does so listen to him.
