MasterControl

Software Development Intern

May 2021 • Cottonwood Heights, UT

What I liked

They put me right into the process, took time to slow down so I could catch up, treated me like a hired Engineer, treat employees well, were really good about keeping work at work and when you were off, you didn't have to worry about work.

Software Development Intern

May - August 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

Everyone's duties were clear. Communication with managers and other teams was easy and not punished.

What I wish was different

I wish MasterControl would obey its own slogan, "quality changes everything", and refactor it's code instead of pushing for so many new features.

Advice

Make use of the knowledge of your coworkers. Ask question from the resident experts, even if they're pin other teams.

What I liked

I like the people I worked with. They were amazing and really wanted to connect with the interns and make sure we had a valuable experience.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more time to work on more software. I did more testing than I had expected.

Advice

Industry experience is amazing and can help you shape your future. Plus internships allow you to experience areas that are outside your typical interest before you settle into your career.

What I liked

It was a fun experience to see the inner workings of their company. It's always interesting to see how different programming firms work.

What I wish was different

Their initial training process was a little all over the place. Other than that, everything was great!

Advice

I would advise students to apply to everywhere. You never know who might extend an offer!
