The people who worked there were very helpful and were always willing to lend a helping hand. Also the work is very fulfilling and you get to see just how the designs you make will impact the community in the future.
What I wish was different
Maybe a bit more training in AutoCAD.
Advice
This is a great position to get started in if you like transportation and like to think about urban design. Biggest thing to do is to always ask questions and never feel scared to put yourself out there.

Highway Division Asset Management Intern
May - August 2021 • Boston, MA
What I liked
I really enjoyed gaining confidence and skill in the ArcGIS program used to map pedestrian road assets across Massachusetts, and getting the opportunity to share my team and I's discoveries at the end of the summer! I also had the opportunity to travel to job sites where construction was being performed to learn more about how municipal projects like the Acceler-8 program, where eight bridges along route I-90 were replaced in eight weekends.

Security Analyst
June - August 2019 • Boston, MA
What I liked
Getting to experience a government office day to day experience in a big city. This changed my perspective and I learned that I would prefer to get a full time job in a private sector.
What I wish was different
More involvement with other interns and with the security department tasks as well as the other departments.
I was treated like an intern, not as an employee.
Advice
If you are not getting enough tasks from your department and supervisors, don't be afraid to ask to switch to another department, or at least spend a few days there. I had the chance to work with the Aeronautics division of the whole state with their drone pilot program. You are in charge of how you spend your internship!
