About Maryland Department of Natural Resources

The Access-Point Angler Intercept Survey (APAIS) is a creel survey of saltwater recreational anglers, conducted along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts of the United States. This survey is part of NOAA Fisheries’ Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP), and the information collected is used to develop estimates of recreational catch for many saltwater species. These estimates are then used by Maryland Fisheries managers in stock assessments and to develop quotas and recreational fishing regulations.
