I enjoyed the office environment and team culture as well as the helpful mentorship within the organization to properly train me for all tasks I was given!

Tax Intern
January - May 2021 • Willoughby, OH
What I liked
I came in with a lackluster knowledge of tax due to school issues. Not only did the firm have one of the most helpful training programs I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing but, each and every member of the firm (to include the partners!) were more than happy to help and teach! I became incredibly efficient and absolutely ready for the real tax workforce. The kindness shown from all made everything so much better.
What I wish was different
Not a single thing.
Advice
Stay diligent in your training and make sure every hour is productive. When you decide your work day is done (8 hours or more) then your work day is done; leave it at the door.

Tax Intern
January - March 2020 • Willoughby, OH
What I liked
The staff is extremely helpful and friendly to the interns. They made it feel like you were part of the family. Anyone, from the partners to the entry level staff, are willing to drop to help each other with questions and tasks. They gave me the opportunity to apply my knowledge of what I learn in classes on real projects and returns. I would highly recommend Martinet Recchia as a place to look into for my fellow accountants.
What I wish was different
Due to the Covid Pandemic, my internship was cut a few weeks short. I wish I was able to continue doing returns and testing my skills for the whole internship but somethings can't be controlled.
Advice
Do not hesitate to ask questions. Everyone expects you to make mistakes and its how you learn from them and become better is what matters. Your coworkers are more than willing to help you learn and better yourself if only you ask.

Tax Intern
January - April 2020 • Willoughby, OH
What I liked
The staff at Martinet Recchia were overwhelming helpful and instructive. They constructed the internship to benefit both the firm and the intern's work experience. I was given the ability and knowledge how to take information from the door to prepare an individual tax return from start to finish. I would highly recommend this internship to my fellow accounting students.
What I wish was different
Unfortunately due to COVID-19, our internship was shortened. I wish I had been able to experience the last two weeks of Busy season with my coworkers.
Advice
I would like to advise to my fellow accounting students do not only communicate with the Big Four accounting firms when looking for an internship or potential job. Interning with this CPA firm allowed me to understand and appreciate the whole process of tax returns and 1099's. I do not believe I would have gotten that understanding in one of the Big Four accounting firms.
