I had a broader scope of practice than a Certified Nursing Assistant. In the Emergency Department, we were responsible starting IVs and in Dialysis, we were able to start treatment on patients.
What I wish was different
Stocking took up a good chunk of time everyday, especially for each of the Emergency Department Rooms. I wish this didn't take away from the more exciting nursing tasks and from witnessing patients with interesting diagnosis.
Advice
Developing a strong rapport with the nurse manager allowed me to grow my professional network with other hospital staff and to be entrusted in more responsibilities and tasks. I made sure to take advantage of the small community.
