I specifically worked for athletics. Most people choose to interview with housing, so it was a small group of us. We’re outside at the stadium most of the time, so definitely bring water and something for your hair if it’s long!

What I liked
Meeting the housing staff, their such lovely people. I work a few hours a week, but seeing them on campus through out the week I don't work is so nice because their all such a supportive group.
What I wish was different
If it was not so hot.
Advice
Join as soon as possible! It was the best time I've had by far. Don't wear jeans though, it gets way too hot!

Research assistant
April - August 2021 • Huntington, WV
What I liked
Research experience to add on my resume
What I wish was different
There were few restrictions because of Covid 19 pandemic. We were not able to collect much data as we wished for.
Advice
This experience was unpaid but it was very helpful for my future study, resume, and employment. Students should look for the quality of experience rather than salaries

Undergraduate Research Assistant
May - August 2020 • Huntington, WV
What I liked
It was a very flexible schedule and I got to work on my capstone project throughout the summer while earning a little extra cash.
What I wish was different
COVID is the only thing I would change. The protocols and lab availability were limited due to reducing the spread. It made it difficult to navigate timing of experiments and meet project deadlines.
Advice
With research, the biggest advice is to have an open mind. It is a job that comes with constant challenges and frustrations, and sometimes you just have to role with the punches!

Pool Lifeguard
May - August 2018 • Huntington, WV
What I liked
I enjoyed the camaraderie with other college-age employees and the consideration of my boss. The job also opened other opportunities to teach swim lessons, and I enjoyed seeing children become more comfortable in the water and learn to swim.
What I wish was different
The schedule was somewhat inconvenient, with gaps between shifts.
Advice
If you aren't sure what the protocol is about something at the pool, just ask!
