It was an enjoyable experience and I got to live with seven other girls who interned on the island. I really enjoyed working for Marriott and felt like they really valued their employees.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had done something like this sooner in my college career.
Advice
I would say that everyone should spend a summer working at a resort. I am not a Hospitality major and still found this experience to be so rewarding and I learned a lot. It is such a great way to gain unique experience and you get to make so many new friends.

The team was amazing, the job was very fun, and the overall experience was great.

Their work schedule. They would sometimes have you working a closing shift then opening the next morning. It was very draining.

What I liked
Interns were empowered to make independent decisions, the schedule was manageable, the company culture and values, the ability to rotate between departments.
What I wish was different
More shadowing of managers and supervisors would create an even more hands on experience to apply to a future career in the hotel industry.
Advice
Try out as many departments as possible to see what you end up liking best and may want to pursue in the future. My managers were very willing to make sure I got the most out of the internship position as possible.

Activities Coordinator
May - August 2019 • South Lake Tahoe, CA
What I liked
I loved the detail to focus on the company culture and how we can use that every day with our guests and owners. I also enjoyed getting to use the stuff I learn in my classes and apply it to a taste of how my career will look like. Getting the hands-on experience early during your college career can help with possible advancement in the company or with connecting with another brand due to your experience in the field.
What I wish was different
I wish they would have done everything they said they would do for your internship like cross-training.
Advice
If you want to start somewhere fun and with a large brand image, this is a great place. Expect to be treated differently since you are an intern however, go above and beyond to learn more about your position and how it helps within the resort.
