Marathon Petroleum Company

I.T. Business Analyst Intern

May - August 2023 • Findlay, OH

What I liked

I really enjoyed the work I worked on, the other interns I worked with, and the company overall was very pleasant.

What I wish was different

I wish there more opportunities to travel. I worked with other interns and other offices but never got to meet them until the final presentations when they flew them to us.

Advice

Come into this with an open mind, even if they choose to relocate you. It was a great experience overall and you will be working on meaningful projects that they will use and implement.

Business Analyst

May - August 2022 • Findlay, OH

What I liked

I really enjoyed my time at Marathon. They have a great intern program and provide you with valuable work.

What I wish was different

One thing that Marathon can approve on is providing interns their location in a timely manner so they have a sufficient amount of time to find a place to live.

Advice

Internships are so valuable as we get real world experience in a corporate setting. My advice is to ask questions! Try to learn as much as you can and make the most of your internship.

Finance Intern

May - August 2022 • Findlay, OH

What I liked

I absolutely loved my experience at MPC. The company culture was by far one of my favorite things. Everyone was so welcoming and willing to help in whatever way possible. Though being an intern, I feel that my time was well spent, and that the projects I worked on had meaning and applicable use to the company.

What I wish was different

I wish there were opportunities to meet interns outside of Finance.

Advice

Find ways to connect with other interns early on. It is crucial to find others around your age to spend time with outside of work, especially if based in a smaller city. Find Facebook pages or group chats, such as GroupMe, to find these connections. Say yes to things like meetups early on to start meeting others and building these relationships.

Supply Chain Intern

June - August 2019 • Findlay, OH

What I liked

I really liked how I was given tasks that were important and I wasn't just the "coffee guy" like the stereotypical internship.

What I wish was different

I wish that I wouldn't have been as stressed about making mistakes. Mistakes happen, it's how you respond to them that is important.

Advice

Make sure that you know all of the specifics for your first week of the internship regarding everything from dress code, time and day, where to go, where to park, and try to have an idea of what to expect.

Engineering Co-Op

May 2017 - August 2020 • Findlay, OH

What I liked

The company has some of the strongest core values and corporate culture I have seen/heard of. The people are amazing and so willing to help. They give you a LOT of responsibility and really push you to grow as an engineer. The Project Engineer role in their L&SE department is great because it is a combination of project management and technical troubleshooting.

What I wish was different

Really I don't have much negative feedback. The company is great! I grew up in Findlay, so I already loved the headquarters community.

Advice

Take on challenges, always ask questions. You are responsible for your own growth (but they have great mentors there that will push you, if you seek them!)
