MAPA Translations, Inc

Assistant Project Manager

May - August 2018 • Framingham, MA

What I liked

I enjoyed connecting with people who either needed a translator/interpreter or who worked for us as translators/interpreters. I was able to learn a lot about the industry and hear interesting stories especially during the times of need for interpreters for asylum seeker cases.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to coordinate the projects on my own. For the last week, my coworkers were on vacation (it is a family run company so it was just 3 of us!) and I was in charge of everything project management related. I was given the opportunity to schedule interpreters and send out documents to translators which I really enjoyed and I wish I was given more work like that throughout the summer. For the rest of the summer I was working on things like starting a newsletter, hiring new translators/interpreters and updating information in our database.

Advice

If you are going to work at a company like MAPA Translations or any company where the industry is new to you, ask questions! Every time I asked a question, I was intrigued by the answer because it allowed me to learn more and more each day about the industry which I found incredibly interesting.
