This office allows for opportunities as long as you are willing to speak up and ask for them. When I was not happy with the work, or lack thereof, that I was doing, my frustrations were taken seriously and I was assigned to lead a project that I would continue working on throughout the school year.
What I wish was different
This office can be very chaotic and unorganized, especially during the summer. They do not reject anyone, and therefore there are too many young, inexperienced high school interns in a small space. There is not enough work for everyone to be productive throughout the day, and therefore the interns tend to get restless and loud. Everyone must participate in surveys at some point, which means walking around in the heat recording data--sometimes having to bend down and take measurements in the middle of a sidewalk. These assignments can be slightly confusing and certainly physically exhausting.
