Managed Resources

Human Resources Intern

July - August 2019 • Long Beach, CA

What I liked

I liked learning about different aspects of Human Resources; I was able to obtain experience in auditing, recruitment, compliance, PTO, employee engagement, and state-specific policies, among several other key components of HR. This internship had a huge impact on my life, both personally as well as professionally. Because I worked under the HR Manager, I was able to gain insight into what it takes to be an efficient and effective leader in the HR and Management field. This affirmed my passion for pursuing a career in Management as it taught me valuable lessons in managing both the resources and people of an organization and by gave me the opportunity to get hands-on experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have taken and written down more notes on all the many things I was learning so that I could have a greater understanding of what it is like to work in HR and so I could better retain all the information. I would've liked to have written down as many questions I could think of prior to starting the internship so that I wouldn't forget all the details and things I wanted to learn, aside from all the great things I learned from the internship itself.

Advice

A piece of advice I would share about this experience is to never be afraid to ask questions, especially if you are interning in your field of study. It is always great to ask whoever you are working under questions pertaining not only to your position but the position in which your mentor or supervisor holds as well so that you can gain a better understanding of the career you want to pursue.
