Make-A-Wish America

Marketing Intern

May - August 2021 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

I liked learning and having the opportunity to work in multiple fields of marketing. I like the inviting work environment while online and in person

What I wish was different

I wish the internship would not have been remote. I wish I had the opportunity to go to more in person fundraisers.

Advice

To be very open-minded and to get to know people within the organization

Brand and Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

Make-A-Wish America allowed me to get hands on experience while building upon my marketing and writing skills. The content that I created was distributed to companies, donors, and sponsors all over the country. In a marketing role it is hard to feel as though your work means something, but in this role you get the chance to interview wish children, create written content about them, and share their inspirational stories.

What I wish was different

I personally would not change a thing about my time spent with Make-A-Wish America. During my time there I grew both personally and professionally and was surrounded by amazing people in the process.

Advice

Get involved. Sit in on all of the meetings that you can so you can learn the ins and outs of the organization and get a deep understanding of who they are and what they do. Most of all, have fun. This was such an amazing opportunity and I learned that working in a professional environment can be a lot more fun than you would think!

IT Technical Writer Intern

June - August 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

I loved everything about my experience at Make-A-Wish. The staff and summer interns were very welcoming and encouraging. Being able to work one-on-one with my manager was a great experience and I learned a lot from him. Although he was very busy, he always set side time to meet with me if I had questions about a project I was working on.
