The culture in the Chicago Office was amazing. You could tell everyone had genuine excitement coming into the office every day to be around this group of people, and for the work they do. I loved that I was able to contribute meaningful work, my skills and efforts felt very valued. I was also welcoming instantly into the office with people always saying hello and letting me know if I ever had questions their door was always open. For the marketing specific aspects I was able to learn a lot about website management and strategy which will help me moving forward in the workplace. I also gained many skills on traditional marketing, determining an audience, working with vendors, planning events, and so much more. I can confidently say this role has solidified I am in the right career path and that I have tremendously grown my skills.

Advice
Reach out to other department leaders! I learned so much about the home building industry and process. It was really cool to get the 'behind the scenes' and helped me to better understand how marketing interacted with all of the departments.

Rotational Intern

What I liked
The aspect of this internship that I enjoyed the most was the fact we were given the opportunity to spend time with every department, which really helped us understand how each department works together to achieve a common goal. Additionally, we got to see what a job in each department looks like day to day, which helped me realize the direction that I want to go in this industry. Everyone in the office was incredible and I truly enjoyed every day of this opportunity, and I would highly recommend this opportunity to anyone looking to get into the homebuilding industry.
What I wish was different
Nothing, I thought the setup we had this summer was perfect.
Advice
Keep an open mind and ask as many questions as you can. This will help you learn the most that you possibly can, which is the whole point of doing an internship.

Marketing Communications Intern
June - August 2022 • Columbus, OH
What I liked
I loved my internship at M/I! It really helped me solidify that I want a career in marketing. The people created such a welcoming environment. The first week you have a whole hour-by-hour schedule where you learn about the different facets of the marketing department (digital, SEO, social media, design, etc.) which was really insightful. This job truly elevated my project management and communication skills as I would communicate daily with marketing managers across the company and the designers within the corporate marketing department. I was given a lot of autonomy with this internship (helped design a t-shirt, presented what I believe should go in campaign boxes, was given my own desk and was trusted with planning my day-to-day myself (no micromanaging), etc.) which I thought was incredibly valuable. The job itself can be a lot of fun too. Overall, I would highly recommend this internship!
What I wish was different
I would have liked to have learned more about SEO in my downtime since this is really important for M/I, but I understand that SEO wasn't my specific role.
Advice
My one piece of advice would be to not be afraid to talk to people and ask questions!
