LPL Financial

Associate Developer

July 2023 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I like the empowering culture and ability to connect with others across the organization.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more opportunities to connect with people in person.

Advice

Prepare by learning about the company and if you're applying for a technical role practice, practice, practice! Go through practice assessments and talk out loud through your thought process to different business problems.

Business Consultant

May 2023 • Fort Mill, SC

What I liked

Most importantly, everyone treated me with respect and kindness. From a professional standpoint, LPL put me in a position to work alongside professionals with decades of experience. The work I did made a difference in our department, and I felt like I was a part of the team.

What I wish was different

One of my most recent interviews for an analyst position took over 2 months, 5 separate interviews, and a few weeks before getting any response. Wish that was a little faster.

Advice

Utilize the network here. Even the executive vice presidents are willing to give you 15 minutes of their time to share stories, advice, and experiences.

Trust Administration Intern

May - December 2023 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed how involved the team was with making sure every intern had a chance to meet with other people and attend events that helped foster a sense of community in the role. I technically worked remotely, but I still felt involved throughout my experience here.

What I wish was different

I would have enjoyed the opportunity to try different roles and experiences as an intern. An internship is about figuring out what you want to do in the future, so I wish we did rotations of various roles throughout the company.

Advice

I would advise an intern to come to this experience with an open mind ready to learn!

LEAP Tech Intern

May - August 2023 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

Everyone is Super nice and the company really cares that all interns have a fun and insightful experience. The program really gives you the option to pick your projects and grow in the way that you want to. A lot of fun intern events where provided and we had a fully hybrid working environment, allow us to choose when and how often we work from home or the office. The San Diego office is also a really nice building with a cafeteria and other fun amenities.

What I wish was different

Nothin, In all honesty I really liked the experience and have no issues with it. I would not have changed a thing.

Advice

Work hard and you'll be rewarded. Interns who preform well are almost guarantied a part time position during the academic semester, and assuming that goes well too, you can expect a full time postion when you get out. They are very interested in investing in their interns and preparing them for success in their processional career. If you want to work here and you show that in your work, they will notice it and will and do what they can to help you succeed.

Business Development Intern

May - August 2023 • Fort Mill, SC

What I liked

Learning so much about the world of business development was something that made this internship experience amazing. I met so many people in different departments and talked about how much they love working for LPL and all that it offers. I was able to see what financial advisors want and how different an independent brokerage firm is versus a wirehouse.

What I wish was different

N/A

Advice

Don't be afraid to try something new! I came into this experience with not a clue about business development but from whatever I had heard from my family. I think this experience gave me the ability to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. 100% worth every minute of the internship and experience.

Advisor Technology Consulting Intern

May 2023 • Fort Mill, SC

What I liked

LPL Financial provides an environment for every individual to achieve their goals by fostering excellent team culture and company values. Every team is very welcoming and everyone knows you are there to learn, especially as an intern. They want to see your curious side and what the new generation of students are thinking like. I was able to ask questions without feeling unheard and management was very supportive of the projects I wanted to get involved in.

What I wish was different

Everything so far has been delightful. Everyone has made themselves available to talk to interns and the LEAP program has provided interns with the resources necessary to become successful at LPL Financial.

Advice

Be open about your goals and don't shy away from who you are truly. LPL Financial motivates individuals to show their true selves and that's what makes this company so great. Bringing together individuals from different backgrounds and mindsets allows for more discussion with each team at the company. I would advise future interns to ask as many questions as possible and connect with as many individuals as possible. There are so many areas within the company that you can dive into, you just need to get started.
