The Artist Services Department team is welcoming, supportive and efficient. Their clear supervision and guidance led me into the grant-giving field for the vibrant arts scene in New York. This highly professional experience really engaged me in the close-knit connection between art and community engagement, and honed my skills in data management, community outreach and group communication.
What I wish was different
If the workload is more permitting, I would love to have more time designated to participate in the various amazing grantee events going on every week. Though it was definitely enriching and engaging to work in the grant-making team, I'd also appreciate the opportunity to rotate to other teams such as marketing, publicity and exhibition curation.
Advice
The beginning of the role could be daunting in the sense that the volume of applications and grantees can be very overwhelming, but it really helped me to become more detail-oriented and focused.
