I like the research focus in the lab and my PI fostered an environment where I could be curious and make mistakes
What I wish was different
I wish it would have continued throughout the semester
Advice
Don't be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure about something

Biological Science Laboratory Technician
June 2020 - August 2021 • Cleveland, OH
What I liked
I got to work with a couple of different Professors, as well as a PhD student (now a doctor). The research was interesting and I got experience discussing research, submitting papers to journals.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have continued in the position, but the VA would not extend any contracts at the time.
Advice
get involved in research and do it as early as you can. I started out unpaid, ended up being offered a paid position, and it was a very good experience for me.

Clinical Student
May - June 2019 • Cleveland, OH
What I liked
I liked the professionalism and set up of the facility. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and wanted myself, as a clinical student to succeed. They worked with me, explained the purpose of each treatment session, and eventually allowed me to have the opportunity to explain the sessions to the patients. I truly felt I gained valuable hands-on clinical experience there.

Physical Therapy Student
July - August 2019 • Cleveland, OH
What I liked
I was able to get insight on what a inpatient physical therapists job is like. It helped me really see where I want to be after finishing school and was reassuring that I’m on the right path.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have been able to start earlier and have more hours. It is a great experience although they only offer so many hours.
Advice
This experience was different, and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I had to go through an on boarding process through the government with background checked and etc. I definitely recommend if the VA is a place you could see yourself at, whether it’s volunteering or shadowing, do it. Start the process early so you have the time and ability to start when you want.

Volunteer
April 2019 • Cleveland, OH
What I liked
I enjoy that I was matched in an area that matches my interests
What I wish was different
Nothing. I enjoy volunteering
Advice
The process of volunteering for the VA is long, however, it is worth it.
