Lonza

Quality Assurance

June - December 2020 • Portsmouth, NH

What I liked

Lonza is an amazing company that really puts their employees first. The margin of error for a contracted biopharmaceutical manufacturer is virtually zero. The work environment is also great, as everyone seems to really enjoy being there, and working toward a cause that ultimately save patients' lives. Also, the fact that I got to work at the plant creating the COVID-19 vaccine was quite exciting.

What I wish was different

The internship on-boarding process is fairly good, however things may get shifted around last-minute. I was placed in QA instead of something more related to bioengineering, but that was a minimal discrepancy if any

Advice

The biotech industry uses almost a whole different language of acronyms and software systems that take time to learn, but the immersion lets you pick everything up before you know it. Also everyone understands how complicated things seem to newcomers, so they're all very forgiving.

Advice

Never stop pushing for what you want. I almost wasn’t allowed to assist in a pilot run but with pushing for it and showing my enthusiasm I was able to assist with the run
