My experience working with older adults opened up so many new opportunities that I didn't think would ever be in my future realm. I learned about all of the available resources to older adults within the local and state programs, as well as what Lincoln Housing Authority has in place to help those with lower income.
What I wish was different
I would have gotten to know the residents more instead of being the clueless intern. They rely on the office staff to help with their housing, personal, and health problems so not being familiar with them lead to a more difficult and pieced together outline on how to better serve them.
Advice
Be familiar, head to toe, with your local programs and politics in whatever career/service you're involved in so you can best serve your clients.
