Camp Counselor

May - August 2019 • Ligonier, PA

What I liked

I liked the community of workers that I was with. They were a supportive group. I also enjoyed the mostly laid back nature of my employers.

What I wish was different

I wish that there had been a little more attention given to personal requests and desires. I also wish there was more time for relaxation, but that was only toward the end of the summer.

Advice

Be prepared to be tested, but you'll have lots of people to lean on and ask for help as you work.

Camp Counselor

May - July 2019 • Ligonier, PA

What I liked

Teaching young people about Christ, community, and creation! I was able to return to my favorite childhood camp and gain experience in leadership, patience, and adventure.

What I wish was different

It would have been nice to have a little more flexibility with time off. It is tiring work and there is not a lot of time off.

Advice

Be present with the community and expect to learn more about your Faith, patience, and others.

Camp Counselor

June 2018 • Ligonier, PA

What I liked

I loved everything about it, from training to putting the actual skills to work. The best part was training with people around my age.

What I wish was different

I loved everything about it. I don't want anything to change, but if possible, I would like to stay connected with my coworkers after training. That is too ideal to come true, so I understand.

Advice

It challenges yourself a lot so, you have to break down your barriers.

Camp Counselor

What I liked

Working with youth was very rewarding, using management skills to coordinate activities and wellness for both camper and counselor, leading adventure activities

What I wish was different

Obviously not doing this job for the money but at the end of the day it’s harder to go back to normal life with a limited budget

Advice

Take the time to do it. It is unlike anything else. Being a servant for the summer and leading campers in a variety of activities is beyond rewarding.

Adventure Staff

May - August 2018 • Ligonier, PA

What I liked

I liked having the opportunity to work with a lot of other individuals who all come from different backgrounds and I loved working with kids who came to camp because I had to opportunity to take them trail riding and teach them about God and his creation through horses which are a passion of mine. Working with horses all summer was pretty great too.

What I wish was different

I wish that we would have had longer to get to know the kids and help them learn more about horseback riding. It was amazing how interested they were and how excited they got. It was hard sometimes because we had so little time to teach them before going on a ride so they would end up nervous or upset.

Advice

I would highly encourage people to look for work not for money but for experience and reward. Money seems like it means everything sometimes, but life is so much better when you have a great experience behind you that you can share with others and use to help you grow as a person.
