Lansdowne Resort and Spa

Food and beverage supervisor

May - August 2019 • Leesburg, VA

What I liked

I gained a lot of experience and liked most of the people I worked with.

What I wish was different

I wish the organization of the internship program had been better because communication between departments and levels of responsibilities was poor.

Server

April 2019 • Leesburg, VA

What I liked

During the summer of 2020, I worked at Piedmont’s, the resort’s elegant restaurant that overlooks the Potomac River. At Piedmont’s, I served resort members as well as hotel guests. Satisfaction of the guests relied on my communication with bartenders and chefs to guarantee drinks and food were efficient. I gained complete knowledge of InfoGenesis POS. Working during the time of Covid-19, I took numerous safety and health precautions when interacting with restaurant guests. What I loved about working at Lansdowne Resort and Spa is how friendly the guests were. Being a server isn't always an easy job, but I got to know many hotel guests and resort members over the course of the summer who made the job so much better.

Advice

The summer of 2019, I was a server at the pool at Lansdowne Resort. In February when my manager asked to me return and work at the pool, I happily agreed. In April, my manager informed me that the restaurants at the resort were shutting down, and the pool would most likely not open. One piece of advice I would like to share is that management can play a big role in your experience at a job. My manager went out of his way to offer me a job at one of the resort restaurants when it was announced that the pool was officially not opening for food service. The management staff was always so friendly and understanding, and every single employee at the Resort made me feel welcomed.
