I like that it was a nourishing environment with a supervisor who took the initiative to offer guidance and support. I received meaningful projects and they gave me freedom when it came to how I wanted to approach different projects.
What I wish was different
I do not have any complaints about the internship program. I think it is run very well and everyone is very helpful and supportive at LMCU.
Advice
I would advise that people go in with an open mind, not be afraid to make mistakes, and also to always seek feedback. Even if it is intimidating to ask what you've done wrong, it is important to seek it.

Video Production Intern
May - August 2019 • Grand Rapids, MI
What I liked
I enjoyed my two bosses, Brett and Ryan. I also got a lot of new experience in photoshop. It was also paid which seems to be uncommon in the area for video internships.
What I wish was different
My time there consisted of much more photo work than it did video work. The culture also seemed a bit shallow. From what I could discern, there were a lot of two-faced interactions, especially for a place that does not have a lot of career mobility within its marketing department.
Advice
Marketing is not my passion but even if it is not yours, giving it a try is worth it. It helped reaffirm that I wanted to go in a different direction with my life.

Bank Teller
February 2018 • Grand Rapids, MI
What I liked
customer service is not really my thing but I thought being a teller would be a great first job. when I started, I didn't think I could go very far because I didn't enjoy it but I was fortunate to be placed at a good branch. My coworkers and boss turned into life long friends and I really enjoyed working with them. The members we serve are also kind and generally understanding even when I make mistakes. So even though this job isn't really "my thing" I'm happy where I am.

Advice
if you're going to apply for a bank teller job, the biggest thing you need to show on your resume is cash handling and customer service skills. its a huge part of the job.
