Registered Behavioral Technician

December 2020 - August 2021 • Redwood City, CA

What I liked

What I wish was different

I would've appreciated a better gas reimbursement policy and better mentorship program overall

Advice

Be open to making mistakes and learning from them because this job is very much dependent of the day/session you're going into due to it being very unpredictable and it being mostly driven by the kiddo you're working with- as cliche as it sounds, no one is perfect in this role! Be open to learning!!

What I wish was different

I wish I had been better equipped to work with kids on more challenging cases.

Behavior Therapist

June 2017 • San Mateo, CA

What I liked

I love working with the kids at Gateway because their joy is so contagious, and I am sharing my love for learning and people with them as I help them develop the social and communication skills they need to thrive. They are so fun! It's like getting paid to play, and have a great time. They teach me more than I teach them, because they are such genuinely innocent, loving, people.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish that was different was the fact that since school is now in session, I had to decrease my hours working each week and can't work with all the clients I worked with over summer, so I miss them a lot.

Advice

Advice I would give: you really need to have a heart for these kids and love them with a genuine care, because they are so special and the world needs more people with their kind of magic.
