Krispy Kreme

Productionist

July 2017 - August 2018 • Westerville, OH

What I liked

I liked learning how to be self-sufficient in my shifts. Before, when I was a team member, I could rely on or trust others to carry some of the responsibilities a shift required, but when I was promoted to productionist, I was the only one on the site responsible for running the machinery. I learned some great time management in keeping up with the schedule and I had a great experience with my co-workers.

What I wish was different

The hours were long at times and we were somewhat understaffed in production, so I frequently was trying to work to catch the rookies up to speed which made for consistently busy shifts. To be honest, I don't have many complaints because it was largely a good experience.

Advice

Diligence, awareness, more diligence, and a good attitude were critical to survive. At times, the productionist who worked the shift before would do nothing to help prepare for the next shift, which meant a hectic scramble to stay on top of things. If I had the wrong mindset, I would have hated the job, but was able to keep going since I just went one thing at a time and looked on the bright side.

What I liked

The other employees are all very friendly, and the customers generally seem to be in a good mood. They are coming for doughnuts, after all.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten scheduled for more hours per week.

Advice

Have fun, but do the work and always stay busy doing something, whether cleaning, stocking the cases, or helping others with their tasks.

Advice

Don't be discouraged if you don't land a summer internship! They're super competitive! If you have to work retail, it's still a respectable way to spend your time.
