Mechanical Engineering Intern

What I liked

Koops is a wonderful company; it has a great and welcoming culture that encourages involvement and friendship. I greatly enjoyed working with the other people in my mechanical engineering team. I also loved that all interns are given the same work that any other person working a full-time position does; I was working with a team of engineers, doing the same sort of work as all the other engineers, which was extremely helpful for my growth as an engineer.

What I wish was different

I can think of little that needs changing; the internship was conducted wonderfully, and Koops has had a lot of practice and is always looking for ways to do better. I think the training process could have been a little bit more well put-together, aligning the few sessions of "classroom" teaching with actual practical experience, but this only proved difficult for a short while, as I quickly got the hang of things.

Advice

Koops has a strong community and lots of variation in its work; I would encourage you to cherish both. Take advantage of the opportunity to form close work-related friendships and enjoy the time you get to spend with your coworkers. Let the wide variation in work grow you in your experience, and come always willing to learn and work hard!

What I liked

Great company, wonderful community of people who cares about their employees. I got some good experience too working in areas I didn’t expect to work that grew me as an engineer and as a person.

What I wish was different

More interaction with coworkers in other positions, engineering positions, would have been nice.

Advice

Work hard and give it your best. Koops really values hardworking employees and has high standards for the character of their employees. It makes for a great and tight-knit work environment.

Mechanical Engineer Intern

What I liked

I appreciated the autonomy and the level of responsibility that I was given to actually be a working part of the team. The SOLIDWORKS design was very helpful in developing my CAD skills and learning how to approach design challenges and brainstorm creative ideas.

What I wish was different

That I had gotten a better sense of how things are purchased and how to do efficient part procuring.

Advice

This was an excellent experience in automation and manufacturing. Interns are treated well and have a great amount of learning at hand. They get to actually implement and improve professional skills daily.

Ask a lot of questions. An understanding of the development of automation equipment can be obtained. Connect with the people you work with. The people you work with are outstanding.
