Environmental Consultant

June - August 2023 • Tampa, FL

What I liked

I really enjoyed working with the Tampa Office. My bosses and Coworkers were great. I got the opportunity to work in a variety of different projects utilizing a variety of methodologies. I learned how to use Garmin and Trimble GPS, how to conduct LSS land surveys, how to monitor wetlands, how to flag gopher tortoise burrows, and bird nests. It really improved my skills in plant, tree, bird, reptile, and animal track Identification.

What I wish was different

I started field work during the hottest part of the year in Florida. Temperatures were frequently above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I would highly recommend starting during a cooler season.

Advice

It is very difficult field work. Make sure to be prepared for long days surveying in wetlands, and highlands. Make sure you are well conditioned for hard work in high temperatures. Kleinfelder trains all their employs very well, make sure you are following the guidance provided by their trainings and safely procedures.

Environmental Engineering Intern

June - November 2021 • Exton, PA

What I liked

The variety of experience they gave me, from the office to the field

What I wish was different

The office and field locations being closer - the commute was exhausting

Advice

It gave me valuable insight into what a career in environmental engineering will look like that I would not have gotten had I not done the internship. Take the internship even if you are not sure if it is what you want to do!

Structural Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I liked how I was able to take on many different responsibilities. I was able to talk personally to contractors and handle important documents. I had opportunities to be both in the office and on site working on various projects. The company was super welcoming and supportive to its employees.

What I wish was different

I wish I got to go on site a little more. Kleinfelder is a consulting engineering firm so it was more more likely for most of my work week to find myself in the office assisting with my teams day to day needs.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about my experience with my first internship is do not be afraid to ask questions or for help! Companies like Kleinfelder love to gain interest by students because they see us as future employees! Asking questions is a part of learning and becoming a more experienced in your desired career.
