I liked working with a younger age group. I have worked with youth in the middle school age range but this time I had the opportunity to work with kindergarten and first graders. I realized through this experience, that I enjoy working with young students and seeing them grow throughout a short amount of time. I enjoyed having the freedom to plan out and facilitate activities for the students while being able to incorporate academic and team building skills.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more time to plan out activities for the students and have more consistency with them. I also wish the summer program was longer so that I can get to know the students and build more stronger relationships with them.
Advice
A piece of advice I would share about his experience is to not be afraid of going with the flow and enjoying every moment with the students! Students look to you for fun and it is important to let loose and provide them with a safe space to be comfortable and be themselves.
