About Kessler Foundation

Kessler Foundation is a public charity dedicated to improving the lives of people with physical and cognitive disabilities caused by stroke, multiple sclerosis, injuries to the brain and spinal cord, and other chronic conditions.

Mission Statement:
The mission of Kessler Foundation is to improve quality of life for people with disabilities through discovery, innovation, demonstration, application, and dissemination.

Vision Statement:
Kessler Foundation leads the way in linking science and grantsmanship so that people with disabilities can lead more productive, independent, and fulfilling lives.

The Foundation’s approach is twofold - supporting rehabilitation research through the Kessler Foundation Research Center and preparing individuals for the workplace through the Kessler Program Center. Through its Research Center, the Foundation achieves steady scientific gains in ways to improve physical rehabilitation. Through its Program Center, the Foundation provides support that ensures vocational training and placement opportunities for people with disabilities in our communities.

Kessler Foundation houses six specialized research departments: Stroke Rehabilitation Research, Traumatic Brain Injury Research, Human Performance & Engineering Research, Neuropsychology & Neuroscience, Outcomes & Assessment Research, and Spinal Cord Injury Research. Currently, Kessler Foundation has 116 employees (58% women; 5% self-identified as persons with disabilities; 22% self-identified as persons from ethnic or cultural minority background) located on two campuses in New Jersey -- West Orange and East Hanover.

All Kessler Foundation facilities are accessible to all people with disabilities, equipped with adaptive technology for consumers and employees with disabilities, and are in compliance with section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and with the ADA.
