Camp Counselor

June 2023 • Prescott, AZ

What I liked

I liked working with the kids and giving them a good time during the weeks at summer camp. Spending time and having fun with them was the highlight, and the camp was overall for a noble cause, which I fully support, and I want to continue until I can no longer.

What I wish was different

I wish I had known some specific qualities of camp, such as certain activities I and other camp counselors had to do.

Advice

I would say that this experience had opened up my eyes to what working with kids was like. I had no previous experience like this, and Kesem has been generous to give me such an opportunity and to start my experience with them. One advice I would share about this experience is that connecting with the people around the "work place" is key to not only achieve success in the work but also to find joy in the work that you do.

What I liked

I loved being able to work with kids and become a friend and mentor to them. It was miraculous to see such strong minds in children and teens. They were inspiring and so fun!

What I wish was different

I wish that I had received a little bit more support from the administration. It was hard to do the things they were telling us because they weren't there to back it up

Advice

Be all in. It is easy to go to camp thinking it is just a resume builder, but to actually go and build relationships is so important to these kids and to you.
