Karpinski Engineering

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May - December 2021 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

As a mechanical engineering student that has also had an interest in architecture, this job could not have been a better fit for me! I am able to use skills in both to do my work which makes it really rewarding and enjoyable. I also like how the work is both a mix of office and fieldwork as it allows me to see and learn the trade in multiple ways to help me grow as an engineer!

What I wish was different

The only thing that I can come up with for this would simply be going out to more field visits to continue to explore the work that Karpinski does! Though this ended up being a covid restriction and not a company one and Karpinski did the best they could with getting me out to many field visits!

Advice

Make sure to ask questions when you are unsure about something to both make sure the project is done right and you understand what needed to be done so that you can do it on your own next time!

Electrical Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Canonsburg, PA

What I liked

I definitely enjoyed the small-office environment. It gave me great opportunities to connect with people! The people in the office were very friendly and great to work with. A lot of them happened to be Grove City graduates as well. My job was pretty interesting, I was able to work with people in other office locations to accomplish our goals. I was also able to work with contractors and help design power, lighting, and technology systems.

What I wish was different

The last third of my summer there was not a whole lot for the interns to do, so I ended up scratching for things to do. But, it just so happened to be the season which the office was in. They were in transition from finishing projects to acquiring new ones, so I understood.

Advice

LEARN TO WORK WELL WITH PEOPLE, AND BE HUMBLE AND WILLING TO LEARN. It will make your experience at any office that much better. Plus, the relationships you make could come back for your benefit one day. There's a lot more to people than what initially meets the eye.

Very involved in big projects. Got to do engineer work instead of just process documents like some internships. Worked on AutoCAD and Revit.

Nothing

Advice

Take time to learn programs used daily. Learning the basics makes it easier than asking every five minutes about something
