JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Wealth Management Summer Analyst

June - August 2017 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I loved the people that I worked with - I still keep up with them almost on a weekly basis. We worked in teams everyday, and it was challenging. The best part about the job is that everyone in the office was willing to sit down with you and explain things to you when you didn't understand it. A great learning environment.

What I wish was different

I wish that we had worked more with the other interns, but it was just because we all got along so well we wanted to spend more time with them!

Advice

Just be prepared to always have a good attitude, work hard and be helpful in any way you can. This is a great learning experience and a great way to meet awesome, hard-working people in Dallas that will genuinely be invested in your career path.

Great company, great people, interesting work.

What I wish was different

Hours a bit long but expected

Advice

Work hard, attention to detail is key, overestimate the amount of hours you'll be working so that you don't have a false impression going into it.

What I wish was different

You get to rank your placement preferences, but rarely get your top choice - but all of the placements are great.

Advice

Take advantage of the people you have access to - go on coffee chats, follow up with people, have meaningful conversations with your manager and skip-levels.

Chase Leaders Development Summer Intern

June 2017 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

It was a good program in terms of development skills across different areas of business.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had chosen a different city location.

Advice

I would encourage juniors to try something new if they don't get their first choice for internships. Studying abroad, going on mission, or gaining some sort of world experience also looks really great going into senior year.

Global Finance and Business Management

June - August 2018 • Newark, DE

What I liked

I really enjoyed the experience behind it all. Moving from NC to DE was scary at first, but I am glad I did it. I met so many good connections, and now have a job lined up for me next summer.

What I wish was different

I wish it wasn't majority of excel, but some jobs you can't get away from that!

Advice

If you're looking for an internship, try to find one out of state. It helped me grow so much and made me see what else is out there!

Corporate Analyst

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

My team was fantastic and always made sure that I had meaningful, helpful work to do. I found the company culture to be fantastic ; everyone at the company was willing to help me whether that was with my project, or for career advice. After receiving my full time offer, I had multiple people whom I had met this summer personally call me to congratulate me and offer their help in any way.

What I wish was different

I was under the impression that it was going to be more finance-based and it was not. Though it was not what I expected, I greatly enjoyed the work that I did.

Advice

Don't be afraid to fail - you will be given tasks that seem impossible or confusing, but do not be afraid to try them.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be open to new experiences and ask a lot of questions. Schedule as many coffee chats as you can, and don't hold back when reaching out to senior managers. Corporate and Investment Bank Risk Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

There are two characteristics about this internship experience that are particularly distinguishable. First, J.P. Morgan’s company culture is developmentally driven. The firm encourages consistent growth both personally and professionally. The internship program is designed to promote this culture through routine executive and analyst events. Second, the interns that I worked with were amazing! They came from many backgrounds globally. All of the interns were as excited as I was to achieve a great experience within J.P. Morgan and explore New York City.

What I wish was different

Advice

If you’re looking for an internship in finance, I suggest that you develop a firm habit of staying informed with the news, especially about finance and its relevance to your potential role. Next, I recommend that you cultivate the skills needed to succeed at your potential job. To prepare for my internship with J.P. Morgan’s Credit Risk group, I read a credit scoring practices book and a quantitative finance book. Finally, be ready to network. Do not simply establish connections, but try to cultivate relationships.

What I liked

The people and culture! JPM does so much for its employees to feel included, comfortable, and invests so much on their future. My team was always their to help me if I had any questions and always tried to make me feel included in all their projects.

What I wish was different

I wish the interns were assigned on a team togethor instead of all spread out. At the end it turned out alright, we would meet each other for lunch and the recruiting team held many social events for us!

Advice

Work hard every day and ask questions! Always say good morning to your team every day and always have a smile on your face, be positive! Take a lot of notes and contact professionals to do one on one meetings.

Intern (Global Finance and Business Management Financial Analyst Intern)

June - August 2017 • Wilmington, DE

What I liked

As one of ten interns at the Wilmington location, I had many opportunities to speak with upper management. We had weekly small group sessions where we were able to hear from various Executive Directors from across the finance department. In my own team, I was given ownership of my own project which was a learning experience like no other. Toward the end of the summer, I presented my work from the summer to my team's Vice President, Executive Director, and Managing Director. Everyone took an active interest in my findings and I really enjoyed working on something that was going to be used after my internship ended.

What I wish was different

It was difficult at points being in Wilmington since the majority of interns were located in Newark and, as result, most of our large meetings were held there.

Advice

I would advise a future intern to reach out to members of various teams. I had the opportunity to work in a room with interns who were all on different teams. As a result, I was able to learn what their projects were and we were able to give one another advice.
