What I liked

The people are phenomenal. I loved being able to be on site and learning things rapidly, with resources at arms reach. I also liked being able to interact with interns in other divisions doing similar work to mine.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have understood my role on a team earlier than later. It was definitely a part of my personal growth which I can now take into consideration in the future.

Advice

Get to know your laborers, and listen to your superiors. They have incredible knowledge to help you professionally and personally. If you come across an obstacle in a task and can't figure it out - attempt to solve it yourself first! If you truly can't figure it out, ask someone for help, and explain to them the logic behind your reasoning and why you arrived to your solution. They will then lead you to the right direction and reach the correct answer. This then becomes something you can harness when someone asks you how to solve something.

Marketing Intern

What I liked

I was given the opportunity to learn Adobe programs that were completely brand new to me, and then was given projects which gave me creative freedom to design as I wanted. They treated me like a regular employee, not just an intern, and this made it much easier to learn in an actual work environment. I also liked that I am currently able to continue interning with JP Cullen throughout the spring semester and winter break both remotely from home and coming into the office, whatever works with my schedule.

What I wish was different

There is little that I wish could have been different in this internship. I got to experience a little bit of everything in their marketing department including customer research, managing social media, and digital designing. One thing that was difficult was the technology at some times; they were having a lot of issues with the company wifi and their secure software, Citrix. When I first started, I was working with the IT department almost daily with problems with my laptop and email.

Advice

One piece of advise I have is to make sure you are feeling challenged. Many of my friends had internships where they were just given tedious tasks that they learned nothing from. I felt challenged throughout my internship and learned something new everyday either about the business, about a program, and even about how an office runs. You will benefit much more if you feel challenged, and if you do not feel challenged, just talk to your supervisor and let them know you are willing to take on more responsibility and are ready to learn.

What I liked

Awesome Company. I am so glad that I talked with them at career fair. I have gotten so many oppourtnities to try new things and show that I am a capable worker. I statrted out with very little responsibility but as time went on and I proved that I was capable of more things I got more and more responsibilities. So much so that I am an extremely valuable member of the team and they are sad that I will not be full time come January.

What I wish was different

I wish I didn't have to go back to class. It was a great experience and I loved every second of it. I would love to just be able to continue on .

Advice

Make sure you ask questions. Even if it its not the most intellectual question people think more of you because you have the guts to ask as well as they feel that you are trying to better yourself. A good example of this, on whatever jobsite I was on if I saw something I hadn't seen before I would stop and ask. It didn't matter if they were Cullen guys or a different sub they would take the time to explain to me what they were doing or how something worked, or what something even is, which has furthered my interest in construction as well as it has reflected on me as being a good employee, or someone who cares. (as I genuinely do)

What I liked

I loved the people that worked there and they were able to keep me busy and learning the whole summer.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had a more variety of experience, but that was mostly due to the project I was on I know others that worked here were on different projects that had more phases during the summer.
