Political Science Research Assistant

May 2021 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

My two research mentors were extremely helpful and we had mentorship meetings on a weekly basis. As someone who was not trained in political science, I learned a lot about how different theories in the field can be applied to global health through my research.

Research Assistant

May - August 2018 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

I enjoyed learning new laboratory techniques and engaging in independent research. My favorite part was learning about various signaling cascades involved in ALS pathology and getting up to date on the literature concerning my protein of interest, c9orf72.

What I wish was different

There's nothing I would have changed. This was experience I needed.

Advice

Don't be afraid of failure! There were so many things that went wrong while I was trying to learn and apply my techniques and run experiments, sometimes due to my mistakes, and sometimes due to no one's. It was through these failures that I learned the most about how I needed to develop as a scientist.
