What I liked

Being back in a kitchen. I loved being able to keep a regular schedule and work with customers again, I loved being able to get my hands dirty and feel like I was earning my pay, and I loved forming new connections with coworkers and people in the area.

What I wish was different

The situation overall. Starting an hourly job as an essential worker during a pandemic can be incredibly hazardous, and while Jersey Mike's took many necessary precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, certain aspects of my employment were less than desirable.

Advice

Don't be afraid to adapt. Sometimes a grease bucket gets left out and it isn't your job to dump it, but someone has to. We all like to imagine ourselves performing "above and beyond," but in many cases it's the smaller things we have to work with, in rolling with the constant flow of the world.
