Sales Assciate
June 2017 • Johnstown, PA
What I liked
I enjoyed interacting with the public and fellow associates. However, what I valued the most was the experience I got in doing a retail type job. The managerial staff was extremely helpful and caring about the associates. This was a great fit for me because it was my first job!
What I wish was different
I wish I could have focused more on customer service and doing my duties to the best of my ability. Instead, we were required to mostly worry about getting credit card applications.
Advice
I think everyone should work in retail because of the vast social skills that can be acquired.

I loved working at J.C.Penny during the summer they had a variety of benefits they offer while your apart of the team. My favorite thing was the incentives they gave for hard work. The company does help you to work on the connections you have with people expanding networking skills.

I wish I could change the uniform policy so that it is a bit more lenient.
Advice
If you plan to work at J.C.Penny I will say that working here is not so bad over time. They break you in, a lot is learned and progression is made.

Womens Fitting Room Recovery
June 2019 • Eugene, OR
What I liked
The employees are amazing! Everyone is very kind and patient as you first get started, and they make the shifts go by faster. I like the projects that we get to do around the store to improve its overall performance.
What I wish was different
Scheduling is a little funky, and it can be hard to get time off if you need it, but as long as you let them know early enough they're still nice about it.
Advice
Don't forget about dress code! It can be really easy to forget, I had trouble remembering that we had to wear red shirts on the weekends. Working in retail made me a more empathetic and hard working person and I would recommend it as a great first time job.

The people were very friendly and I was able to understand all of the tasks I had fairly quickly.
What I wish was different
I wish I had a more consistent schedule, but I did say that I could work any time (so I could get more hours), so it is possible to have a more consistent weekly schedule.
Advice
It is retail. I was a cashier, I cleared fitting rooms, and I organized the sales floor. You have to be okay talking to customers and be nice.
