Ivy Tech Community College

Ivy Tech Community College Foundation

September 2017 - July 2018 • Terre Haute, IN

What I liked

I loved that I got the chance to connect to the community around us. I was able to help raise money for the school and students. I loved that in the end I was able to see the scholarships be handed out, and the joy and relief on the faces of students and families was worth all the hard work. I was able to go to Indianapolis to be trained with the board of the foundation, and working with the foundation was an experience that taught me so much.

What I wish was different

I wish you did not have to be a current student at Ivy Tech to continue my internship. I loved working there, but it was time for me to pursue my bachelor degree so I had to give up my internship.

Advice

The advice that I would give is do not be afraid to jump in and help. You will be meeting a lot of influential people in the community, and it is best to be yourself and have fun. There was event to plan and attend, many phone call, and hand written thank you letters to everyone that donated to the school. I was also able to do a lot of research and development and their future fundraisers, and it will give you a lot of great real world experience.
