ITEC Entertainment

Assistant Technical Director

May - August 2021 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

There were a lot of technical skills I was able to use and put into practice. This internship even made classes I didn’t like as much interesting! I was able to make an impact, even though I was just an intern and I honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but I got more out of it than I could've asked for. At ITEC, interns are welcomed as if they're a full time, respected employee. They trusted in me to perform whatever tasks they through my way which helped to build my confidence as an engineer. The work environment at ITEC is very collaborative both internally and externally.

What I wish was different

I’d say my only cons in working in this industry would be that, naturally, because it’s entertainment you aren’t going to make as much money as would working for NASA for example. Furthermore, when you jump into your career, be prepared to potentially work long, and strange hours of the day. If you’re doing maintenance for a theme park ride, for example, you would typically work through the night when the park is closed to guests.

Advice

If you’re looking to get an engineering internship with ITEC or the entertainment industry it is important to partake in activities related to arts, entertainment and technology.
