Camp Counselor

June - August 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

This was my 4th year being a camp counselor but this year I had the opportunity to direct the camp. I enjoyed the responsibility and feeling that I was in charge of what took place at camp, including both the good and the bad. I also valued the experience as it prepared me more for my future occupation as a teacher

What I wish was different

I wish there were more off-camp activities such as field trips. The camp has a low budget, so there weren't any field trips as there had been in past years.

Working with kids can be difficult but I think good advice is to not be too disciplinary. The kids are coming to enjoy their summer, and many of them are escaping a home life thats not too great. At the same time however, make sure that there a clear rules to follow.
