Iron Mountain

Software Engineer

May - August 2023 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The best part about interning at Iron Mountain was that it gave me real-world experience. Other internships have you doing busy work, that absolutely wasn't the case. I was placed on the UI team and got right to work developing a component for the new platform the team was creating. I attended daily stand-up meetings, working sessions, and sprint demonstrations. I felt like I was a part of the team and was treated as such. Everyone was very welcoming, supportive, and kind. The work and team made for an amazing summer internship. I would work there again.

What I wish was different

Unfortunately, the job was remote and while the intern video calls were nice, it wasn't the same as being able to interact with the other interns or team members in person.

Advice

I absolutely loved my experience at Iron Mountain. No matter what team you get put on, work your hardest and don't be afraid to ask questions or for help when you need it. You are an intern and they know that. Use this team to learn and gain valuable experience for your future.

Talent Acquisition/University Relations Intern

May 2023 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The internship experience is entirely tailored to students and their desire for impactful and meaningful work combined with professional networking opportunities. Working as an intern, the projects I completed had real impact on the organization and provided me both personal and professional growth. Regardless of the remote environment, I felt at home as the program equipped me with professional networking from day one - which I attribute as the key factor to my fruitful internship experience. The company truly relies on young talent to bring passion and enthusiasm to the company as senior leaders thrive of the energy interns bring to work on a daily basis.

What I wish was different

In-person interaction would have provided a better connection with fellow interns.

Advice

Your experience is enhanced by asking questions and taking on new responsibilities and challenges. You learn and grow by taking self-initiative as your curiosity provides you opportunity. The company culture is one of community and togetherness and everyone is willing to provide you with the resources and assistance that you need should you have any questions or require any help during your time as an intern.

UX Designer Intern

June 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

My manager cared about making sure that I always had something to do. I felt like I was consistently learning something new. The Iron Mountain employees affiliated with the internship program (your manager, your peer mentor, and the program coordinator) try their best to make sure that you're getting the most out of the internship.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship program were larger. My cohort only had about five other interns.

Advice

You should set goals for your internship and jump at any opportunity to show your skills.

Product Management/ Data Management Intern

June 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The program was extremely fun and extensive interns were given a lot of projects to do on their own while also collaborating on a group research project. The open office concept made it easy to get to know other interns and workers and the remote working culture makes it easy to work from home or the office with no difficulty.

What I wish was different

Nothing

Advice

Just because you haven't heard of a company before doesn't mean you shouldn't apply. Iron Mountain wasn't on my radar initially until I submitted an application and I am glad I did.
