It was such a great experience at InterWest. I truly enjoyed how flexible they are with the interns schedules. It’s also great because you learn about the insurance brokerage industry and get to work with many executives across different departments such as captives, claims, risk managements, employee benefits, property and casualty, commercial lines, personal lines, sales, alternative markets and many more. It truly does help you decide whether or not insurance is the right pursuit for you since you can choose which department you want to concentrate most on. This is not just limited to Petaluma, they also have an internship program in Chico and Sacramento!
What I wish was different
At the time, I was the only intern at the Petaluma office while the others had at least 5 interns. However, I believe they said they were planning on hiring more at the Petaluma location next summer.
Advice
If you see potential in a department, speak with your mentor to see if she can set up more meetings or ride alongs with a certain department executive or producer!
