Intern

May - July 2018 • Lowell, MA

What I liked

I had an invaluable experience here at the International Institute of New England because of the amount of support and opportunities that I received from this program. The people here are some of the most dedicated and hard working people I have ever met, and have inspired me to choose a profession about which I am wholeheartedly passionate regardless of benefits or difficulties I may encounter. It was an extremely rewarding experience to be able to work one on one with refugees and asylees as they began or continued their resettlement process here in the US.

Workforce Development Intern

May - August 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I really enjoyed the collaborative and engaging staff I worked with either directly or indirectly. There was a huge sense of a common goal and desire to serve refugees and immigrants, and this translated into passionate and dedicated individuals who were always helping each other out and stepping up when needed. Staff respected and valued the interns, and they made sure we knew that.

What I wish was different

Interns did not get a chance to know each other even though there were almost 20 of us since we were so busy with individual department work..

Advice

Be ready to work a lot and spend time in language or cultural settings you are not used to.
