International Franchise Association

Government Relation Intern

June - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I enjoyed the experience because it allowed me to see the inner workings of a trade association in downtown Washington D.C. Because we were located on K St., I was right in the thick of the lobbying sphere and D.C. networking. I loved that I was able to engage in many different experiences such as running meetings, participating in events on the Hill, reaching out to Representatives and Senators, writing communication materials and much much more.

What I wish was different

I ended up doing much of the communications work for IFA and that had not been communicated to be up front.

Advice

Meet everyone that you can. D.C is a small town where everyone knows everyone and this can work to your advantage or disadvantage. It can lead to many new job opportunities!
