Intelligrated, Inc

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May - August 2022 • Mason, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed the wide array of opportunity that Intelligrated gave me throughout my Co-Op. During my time, I was able to develop my skills in SolidWorks, increase my technical knowledge of the engineering process, learn how to better streamline my work, and seek out and solve problems through utilizing my skill sets. I had an incredible team that helped me when needed and let me pursue independence throughout the job. Finally, the workplace culture was professional, but relaxed, and there were tons of opportunities to get to know the team and anyone else in the company.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have had the courage to take more risks early. I held back too much at the beginning and didn’t give myself the chance to do as much independent work as I could have. Towards the end, I made more of my own decisions and learned how to take better notes, streamline my work, and answer questions independently. Additionally, more hands on work would have been preferable, but I am happy with the work that was given to me. Finally, I wish I would have reached out to more people earlier, as the connections I have made at Honeywell have been genuine and fantastic.

Advice

I would recommend to “get going” early. Don’t be afraid to pursue independence and be comfortable with things going wrong. Learning from your mistakes and taking advice from everyone is the name of the game for first co-ops. Additionally, don’t be afraid to network and reach out to those which you might be intimidated by, people will find time and the conversations you have can be incredible impactful. Finally, be you and do your best work, don’t hold back on your talents and demonstrate what you are made of.

Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Intern

July 2017 • Roseville, CA

What I liked

Good small work environment. Everyone is kind and accommodating. A wonderful opportunity to learn about the automated material handling industry and dive into many projects. Your work will be used greatly.

What I wish was different

More experience towards my particular field of interest (Mechatronics).

Advice

Attention to detail is key. Every piece of information you put on your work means something in the field where it will be implemented and if it is incorrect then you cause someone else confusion and time.

Co-op

August - December 2017 • Mason, OH

What I liked

Good working environment, the people in charge here are very friendly and work with you to give you the best working experience.

What I wish was different

I wish they were busier and I didn't sit around half the time waiting for something to work on, also they travel a lot and I wasn't up for that

Advice

If you are okay with traveling a lot this is a great opportunity but if not it can get slow at times and test your patience
