Baker

May - July 2023 • Chicago, IL

Advice

If you’re not already comfortable with staying up late, this job isn’t for you. Night and closing shifts are required and those shifts can be as late as 12 am - 3am, but if you’re someone who stays up that late anyway then go for it! It’s a fun starter job and you get free cookies every week too! Also, be very respectful to your coworkers and make sure to play your part, it’s a lot more team reliant than it seams.

What I liked

Friendly work environment, perfect first time job.

What I wish was different

I wish I wasn't so hard on myself when working, the job is very easy after a couple weeks into working.

Delivery Driver

August 2019 • Springfield, MO

What I liked

It’s a bakery with cookies! You can study when it’s super slow too.

What I wish was different

I wish the employer wouldn’t let the tips pay you first. They’ll compensate you up to $9 an hour if you get no tips, but if you do, they let that money pay the difference instead of paying it themselves.

Advice

Night shift makes a lot more than day shift.

Delivery Driver

May 2019 • Athens, OH

What I liked

The people I worked with were friendly and helpful, it created a welcoming environment that made me excited to come in to work. It didn’t hurt that we got a free cookie during our shift, which were delicious! As a delivery driver, I love the fact that we get paid on a weekly basis, so I have been able to find out exactly how much I made (regular pay + tips) much faster than at other places.

What I wish was different

I wish our shirts were a lighter color or a more reflective color, as a delivery driver who works at night there have been a few too many times when drivers/pedestrians couldn’t see me in the dark.

Advice

At times, customers can be difficult to deal with and may not be the most kind, but wait for that one customer who tips you a little extra or gives you a compliment that will make your day.

General Manager

May 2019 • Stillwater, OK

What I liked

I was promoted to general manager from being a shift lead. This company is wonderful to work with- they love hiring from inside the company and promoting people, creating a very close-knit almost family like work environment. Even those above you- directors, senior directors, COO, want you to succeed and will do their best to help you!

What I wish was different

I wish the training period had been different and more hand's on with things that you run into in management such as how to deal with troublesome employees, tips on scheduling, as well as how to really help boost your sales.

Advice

If you are considering Insomnia for employment I highly recommend it- being a baker, driver, or shift lead is a very fun and flexible job within a really fun company that is always striving to be better. It is a great job during the school year because during shifts, if it is slow, you are allowed and sometimes encouraged to bring homework or a book to read once your chores and duties are completed.

Cookie delivery driver

October 2017 - July 2019 • Terre Haute, IN

What I liked

It was an easy job that I could do and do well. I was able to do homework during my downtime and I loved my coworkers.

What I wish was different

I wish I didn’t put that many miles on my car but hey, that’s showbiz baby. Also working until 3am was not always fun.

Advice

I would say to enjoy your time in a low stress job where you have an extremely flexible schedule.
