I loved the opportunity to work in a luxury hotel and see how a Marriott location operated, while still getting to be a part of a staff that was close and connected. I also appreciated the chance to rotate through different roles and figure out what I did and didn't like.
What I wish was different
I wish that I could have been able to work in one role after my rotations in the beginning of the summer. We were so understaffed that I was working 50-60 hours a week, and I had to do roles that I didn't like and never got to come back to my favorite positions.
Advice
Be prepared to take initiative and complete tasks that help the team as a whole, and take the time to get to know your guests, since many of them come back throughout the summer!

Front Desk Supervisor
May - September 2020 • Bay Harbor, MI
What I liked
Friendly coworkers across departments. Getting to know Marriott PMS system.
What I wish was different
Management team cares and appreciate employees more. Listen to hourly workers' needs and accommodate them as much as possible. Better room and reservation management based on the number of housekeepers. I wish I was trained more to perform supervisory tasked as agreed in the contract.
Advice
It will be a good experience to meet all wonderful staff at the hotel. You will see all different factors in operating a full-service hotel, as well as good/bad decision from the management that you can learn by yourself during your internship.
