Customer Support Intern

May - August 2020 • Westchester, IL

What I liked

The people at Ingredion are amazing! Everyone that I met with from fellow interns all the way up to senior management was genuinely invested in my career development. The CEO even took time out of his day to celebrate National Intern Day with the other interns and I. Ingredion also adapted amid the uncertainty of COVID19 and provided a completely remote experience for me which in my eyes was them going above and beyond. I also liked that I was trained cross-functionally in different areas of their supply chain.

What I wish was different

Advice

Network as much as you can while you are there and ask a lot of questions

Logistics Analyst Intern

May - August 2018 • Westchester, IL

What I liked

I LOVED the people working at Ingredion. Everyone was so invested in me and making sure I understood everything. I was never afraid to ask for help because they made me feel so comfortable. It was a great experience to understand how Logistics works and the kind of projects they're involved in. I was especially grateful for the operational experience they provided at the beginning of the internship. It really gave me a building block for future projects.

What I wish was different

I'd love an opportunity to work more with other interns! It was a great summer but that's my main improvement suggestion.

Advice

Be proactive in meeting new people and reaching out to other departments that you're interested in.

Quality Control

May - August 2018 • Bedford Park, IL

What I liked

I got assigned three specific projects to finish and I had to present my findings in a ten minute final presentation to the interns and managers. I also liked how the company was big because it gave me a good idea of what I will look for in a Food Industry.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have performed daily tasks with the equipment in the laboratories. I also wish I could have worked on a cross functional project with another intern.

Advice

Ask a lot of questions when you get the opportunity to!

Process Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Indianapolis, IN

What I liked

Amazing internship experience. Did meaningful work for the company that was similar to what full-time engineers were doing. Spent a lot of time learning how a manufacturing plant was run. My boss and mentor were both incredibly helpful.

What I wish was different

I felt like they just threw me into the fire, but that’s sometimes the best way to learn. It was interesting learning to adjust to working at my own pace. Additionally, wish I could’ve seen projects all the way through, but that is fairly difficult for a 10 week internship.

Advice

Ask lots of questions. The people that work there are more than willing to answer them.

Information Security Analyst Intern

May - August 2018 • Westchester, IL

What I liked

The workplace environment was great and I had a total of four manager. Each manager has a specialty and this allowed me to meet with them individually to talk about different approaches to policies and standards. This internship helped me get my head around how my real life is going to be looking and what kind of fields are related to my computer science major.

What I wish was different

If I would have take more diverse classes, I believe that it would have made my experience better because I was under the impression that it was a technical internship but it wasn't. Although, this was a good thing since it showed me the business side of IT and how IT and cyber security plays a roll in companies.

Advice

Be open minded and keep a positive mentality about the hours and lag time. Make sure you work hard on the first few projects you're assigned so they can trust you with more responsibilities. In my experience: more responsibilities = more exposure = better internship experience
