Global Partner Marketing Intern

May - August 2018 • Austin, TX

What I liked

Great work environment! Laid back and modern office. Enjoyed contributing to important projects that were received well by upper management. Living in a new city was terrific. The company paid for my housing and airfare and paid well above what I was expecting to make. Working in a global position that allowed me to work with people all over the United States, Ireland, Australia and more!

What I wish was different

Working remotely from Austin had its issues at first but I learned to work through them. I never got to meet my manager face to face but was able to meet my mentor twice. Excited to return to the company full time and meet them more frequently.

Advice

The technology industry has great benefits and my marketing and information systems background helped me stand out during interviews. Some job postings online actually turn out to become great successes!

Software Engineer Intern

June - September 2018 • Redwood City, CA

What I liked

There is always something to do at Informatica. The company sponsors several outing events such as intercompany sporting competitions, volunteering events, and team-based socials. We have team meetings and one-on-ones with our manager once every week. Everyone is really smart and will provide you with a lot of feedback/advice. The company as a whole cares deeply about their employees. Informatica is a privately traded company, but the leadership is very transparent about our quarterly earnings and product roadmap. There are two exits for Informatica. Either get acquired or go public. In terms of amenities, all employees receives free gym passes at Pacific Shores and reimbursed work travel (limited to public transit). We also have free drinks (soda, sparkling water, etc) and snacks (beef jerky, chips, etc). Fun fact, I have drank 157 Diet Cokes, 26 Dr. Peppers and 13 Brisk since the start of my internship to this spotlight.

What I wish was different

The diversity at Informatica could use a change. My team was very diversity, but the company as a whole wasn't. Having a cultural barrier between teammates and the company as a whole can really hinder the enjoyment. I understand that companies should hire the best individuals for the job, but diversity is something worth taking a closer look at.

Advice

Be proactive during the internship and do not expect everything to be clearly map out for you. You should be treated as a regular employee and should act accordingly. Be curious at the entire process and ask tons of questions. Ask a lot of whys rather than hows.
